Overwhelmed by the idea of using social media for your home baking business? Note that not all social media is a good investment of your precious time. You have to be aware who your target market is, which tools they are using and the time that you can invest in maintaining the accounts.
The Golden Rule of running a successful social media campaign: Don’t bite off more than you can chew. It’s better to have 2 great accounts than 5 forgettable accounts. Best to pick two social media tools and make it excellent!
Here’s a rundown of my favourite 5 (+1) social media marketing tools to use, and which ones could be the perfect fit for you.
1 – Facebook
Facebook is a great platform for reaching out to customers of all ages; adults, teens and mostly women. A great place to share your dessert pictures, contact information, payment details, reviews and having that space to interact personally with your customers is great for building a better relationship.
Tip: Facebook has an affordable advertising program that can help you to target your specific customers. Setting up a page is easy and fast (take a look to our guide: How To Create A Facebook Page) and you can also schedule the posts. You can now plan out the perfect time to update your post, according to your customers’ online habits.
2 – Twitter
Unlike Facebook, Twitter has more male user than female. Age between 18 – 44 years old and tech savvy.
Twitter is perfect for those bakers who are location independent. If you sell your cakes and desserts at different location daily or weekly for examples at food markets, fairs, pasar, flea markets and other pop-up events, Twitter is perfect for keeping your customers up-to-date!
Also, it is ok to update your account multiple times a day without annoying your followers.
Tip: Studies show that a tweet with a picture will get retweeted more. So add in your beautiful picture if you want your tweets to get the big RT.
3 – Instagram
Instagram is visually oriented, so having a good picture is very important. Good lighting, focus and a good layout is essential. But if all else fails, use a filter. Studies show pictures with filter gets more likes than those without. 90% of Instagram users are below the age 35.
Instagram is great for showcasing your creations, reviews from customers and behind the scene pictures (in the kitchen baking your cake, shopping for fresh ingredients in the market and etc). Followers love that! It makes them feel like they can get to know you more intimately.
Tip: Use hashtags to target local buyers. #sayajualcake #klbakers #klhomebaker #jualmurah #clicksforcakes
4 – Youtube
Youtube is a great way to showcase your talents. You can post up tutorials, recipes, product reviews and your amazing personality! It allows you to communicate certain topics more effectively (like how to make that incredible detailed Minion figurine or that gravity defying cake) than pictures and words.
Tip: Go ahead, let your real personality shine through and update consistently. Many YouTubers are now endorsing products from big brands and getting paid a lot of money for it.
5 – Pinterest
Like Instagram, Pinterest is a highly visual oriented tool. Females around the age of 30 – 50 years old with higher income are the major users. Pinterest is great for building your branding image.
Tip: To get more exposure, add the free Pinterest page app to your facebook page to promote your Pinterest presence.
+1 – Website
If you are ready to take your business to the next level, set up your own home bakery business website is a bonus but some say is also an essential.
Why? Because you will have better control of your branding, marketing, what information to put up or not and heighten your customers shopping experience with you by setting up a shopping cart or an online shopping system.
Tip: If you love to connect with your customers with stories and personal experiences, you can do that with the blog update too. A great and affordable hosting with a terrific customer service is SiteGround.
