Musing of a home baker - A few days ago, I had to deliver a cake. Which was actually a last minute change of plans. The client had initially said she’ll pick the cake up but changed her mind and asked if I could deliver the cake instead. I said yes but with delivery charges. The first delivery time was at 3pm. But at 2pm she called to say she had an emergency meeting and if we could change the delivery time to 4pm instead. Sure, why not? I had no life after all… Then she called half an hour later to change the delivery time to 5pm. Then at 4:30pm, it started to pour from the skies. A real tropical thunderstorm. Add this to the rush hour traffic that was pending, I told myself I need an early start for this delivery. So I left my house.

A few days ago, I had to deliver a cake.

I had no life after all…

Then she called half an hour later to change the delivery time to 5pm. Then at 4:30pm, it started to pour from the skies. A real tropical thunderstorm. Add this to the rush hour traffic that was pending, I told myself I need an early start for this delivery. So I left my house.

The client calls me at 4:45pm and to change the delivery time to 5:30pm as she won’t be free til then. By this time, I couldn’t care less anymore cos I had bigger things to worry about. Like navigating a car in the rain, in rush hour traffic with a super decadent banana cake with cream cheese frosting in the backseat.
The traffic proved to be insane. And by 5:30pm, I was about fifteen minutes away from the delivery point. So I texted the client saying I’ll be a little late. Can you imagine, she had the audacity to reply me and say to please be there before 6pm as she wants to leave her office by 6. I had the sudden urge to throw the cake in her face when I saw her.So I got there by 5:50pm and she came down at 6:05pm to get the cake.

She asked me “Where should I keep the cake? In the fridge?”
I replied her “In the washing machine”

She stared at me trying to figure out if I was joking or not. I told her, “Enjoy” and walked back to my car.
People these days…
