Have you ever had a dry spell? I’m speaking in terms of orders here. I recently went on two weeks without any orders. Can you imagine? The first few days, I was almost going mad. I started speaking to my oven.
Me: You need to know, it’s not you. It’s me. I’m not getting orders so I can’t use you as often.
Me: Please don’t be cold to me. It’s not my fault.
Then I thought, okay maybe this is a blessing. Let’s give the kitchen a thorough cleaning. So I spent an entire day cleaning and reorganizing the entire kitchen. I found some stuff that I never knew I had (smurf cookie molds) and some stuff I never thought I’d see again (Spice Girls oven mitts). I thought I felt my oven judging me on the mitts.
I baked myself a super decadent batch of chocolate chip cookies as a reward for my hard work. This time, I’m sure I heard my oven going “tsk tsk tsk”. But I’m also sure my oven was happy to finally be switched on.
So that’s how I spent my two weeks, speaking to my oven and researching for new recipes and doing some trial and error. I recently discovered the joy of making my own jam so I was experimenting with all sorts of fruits. Some successful (mango lime jam), some disastrous (durian raspberry jam). It was a nice break from baking. And gave me some time to reevaluate myself and my purpose in this wonderful world of baking.
What did you do during your dry spells? Or am I the only one who experiences this?
